We tested the amplifier and Home Cinema system. And no, they do not serve the same purpose your technology | Country

When you want to improve the sound of your TV (something that is not unreasonable, considering that in their thin designs there is no space for speakers capable of delivering high quality sound) the most common thing is to install a system home theater Or choose a megaphone. And although for a long time they were considered alternative or similar solutions, the truth is that they are not. To verify this and verify the advantages (and limitations) of both systems, we installed and tested both options: on the one hand, a kit consisting of a DENON AVR-S660 AV receiver and Jamo S 803 HCS 5.0 amplifiers with a Jamo 210 subwoofer (which has an approximate cost of about $1,300). euro); On the other hand, there are the Bose Soundbar 900 accompanied by two rear Bose Surround Speakers and a Bose Mass Module 500 subwoofer (for a total price of 1800 euros).

Best sound

with systems home theater A curious thing happened. Until a few years ago, everyone wanted to own one of these devices that is capable of transforming the living room into a real movie theater. For this reason, audio companies have presented a thousand and one alternatives in their catalogs with packages for all tastes, needs and budgets. But today the situation has changed, they are no longer so widespread, and it is really difficult to find the all-in-one “packages” that were so popular in the past: instead, the most widespread tendency among lovers of good sound is to choose an AV receiver (center The nervous system that distributes the sound from each source) on the one hand and amplifiers on the other. And they don’t even have to be of the same brand. For this test, when selecting the set, I took into account that the overall price was not too high, but at the same time, it offered everything necessary to enjoy immersive sound from multiple sources and that it allowed playback in streaming from major music content applications.

Installing the system made up of DENON and Jamo equipment was very simple in my case, since I have a pre-installation at home of speakers that hide the cables: I put them on some supports, plug them in and everything is ready (you shouldn’t forget that there are also wireless options on the market). Connecting all the components to the receiver is an equally simple task – although tedious – because each component is perfectly identified on the back: where each speaker goes, Blu-ray, TV, console … This information is important, because it is possible Connect multiple devices simultaneously to enhance the sound of any of them and control them individually later from the remote control. In this case, the DENON receiver also has a menu that guides you step by step through the configuration and includes a sound calibration function to adapt it to the room by placing a microphone in different locations.

Personally, the differentiating aspect with regard to the speakers is that, in addition to the high quality, it is possible to decide how to listen to any content (and from what source) at all times. If you are watching a movie or a series, you can choose to do it in surround sound, but if you are watching a TV program with the touch of a button, the center and side speakers will sound exclusively (ideal for hearing dialogues loud and clear), in the case of music, what experts recommend is that The sound is in stereo format … In addition, its compatibility with 3D audio formats is very wide (they are not only compatible with Dolby Atmos), which helps to improve the quality of content on video (scaling to 8K) and even facilitate system configuration multi roomthat is, the sound can be extended to other rooms.

The ‘easy’ solution

However, sound bars are the most popular solution today: They are easier to install, take up less space, and are generally much cheaper than home theater systems. However, it must be kept in mind that in order to have a good sound experience, it is necessary that you meet minimum quality standards; Then the price starts to rise. For the test, I chose the best Bose speaker, a model that is not exactly cheap but shines in reproducing various frequencies, as well as being able to adapt the sound to the room in which it is installed. However, I supplemented it with rear speakers and a subwoofer to give it a more immersive feel and to make the setup as close to a “race” team as possible.

It’s a product designed specifically for connecting to a TV (although it also plays streaming from a mobile phone) and is suitable for all those who want to improve sound quality but don’t need to do so from other sources or strive for a lot of customization. It only has two connections: HDMI ARC and a digital cable. It is better to use the first option, because in this way, every time the TV is turned on, the tape will also be played and we will always enjoy its mix. The change is drastic in terms of the use of the speakers in the TV itself: dialogues clearer even at low volume, the sound rich and full of nuances … Of course, we must bear in mind that the surround effect is not as successful as with a home cinema and that we will make the most From additional speakers only when we see Dolby Atmos-compatible content (it already has it, for example, Amazon Prime Video or Apple TV +). In the rest (even in music), the content is heard, but at a low volume and without generating that feeling of being in the center of the action.
