According to reports, Valencia are planning to ‘maintain their flirtation’ with Lucas Torreira as they ‘wait’ for Arsenal’s final decision on his future.

Torreira made the move to Arsenal following the conclusion of the 2018 World Cup. They paid around £26m to sign him.

The midfielder was a regular for the Gunners up until Mikel Arteta’s arrival towards the end of 2019.

The Uraguay international spent the whole of last season on loan at Serie A side Fiorentina. They were keen to sign him permanently this summer but this transfer is now off the table.

Valencia have now emerged as the favourites to sign him from Arsenal.

Spanish outlet AS are now reporting Valencia ‘will wait’ for Torreira. The player is currently in the United States with the rest of Arsenal’s squad for pre-season.

Torreira is with them ‘at the request’ of Arteta but he is yet to play any minutes in games. The ‘operation’ to sign him ‘is at a standstill until Arsenal make a decision’. His contract expires in 2023.

The report adds that Valencia plan to ‘maintain their flirtation’ with Torreira while waiting for ‘Arsenal to decide’.

Meanwhile, Emile Smith Rowe has claimed that Arsenal newcomer Fabio Vieira is “very similar” to Manchester City attacker Bernardo Silva.

Vieira is yet to make an appearance for Arsenal during pre-season as he is recovering from a foot injury. He is expected to return to full fitness in the next couple of days.

Silva meanwhile was one of Man City’s standout players last term as they edged out Liverpool to retain the Premier League title.

Last week it was reported that the midfielder had agreed to join FC Barcelona this summer for €80m.

Smith Rowe has praised Vieira ahead of his Arsenal debut while likening him to the Man City player:

“He’s very similar [to Silva]. He’s a very good passer of the ball, his left foot is very good and he likes to create goals and score them himself,” Smith Rowe said (quotes via The Daily Mail).

“I’ve already played against him at international level, so I can’t speak highly enough of him, and the fans should be really excited.

“At the Euro Under-21s, they [Portugal] beat us 2-0 and he was unbelievable in that game.”
