A skirmish between Israel and Syria over the shooting of a reconnaissance drone

The Israeli military said in a statement on Wednesday that Israel responded to a Syrian shooting of a reconnaissance drone.

An army statement said, “The Israeli army’s machine gun fire was directed at the area where the shelling originated in Syria.” The drone successfully completed its mission and caused no damage.

Israel has launched attacks for years against what it described as targets linked to Iran in Syria, where Tehran’s influence has grown since it began supporting President Bashar al-Assad in the civil war that began in 2011.
