The United States believes that a pro-Ukrainian group was able to attack the Nord Stream gas pipelines


US intelligence believes that an attack on Russia’s Nord Stream gas pipelines last year may have been the work of Pro-Ukrainian groupbut did not reach a final conclusion in this regard.

The United States and NATO have previously denied involvement in what it described as an “act of sabotage” against the pipelines, which dumped dangerous amounts of gas into the Baltic Sea. Nord Stream pipelines, built by Russia’s state-owned company Gazprom, carry gas from Russia to Germany.

The attacks took place in September 2022, and damaged three out of four pipelines. Russia blamed the United States and its Western allies for that. Now the American New York Times has revealed the first findings of American intelligence indicating the existence of a group opposed to the Kremlin.

In the year after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Europe rose drastically cropped Imports of oil and gas from Russia. Germany continues to import fuel, although it is under great pressure from NATO allies to cut ties with the Russian regime.

And as The Times has now revealed, US intelligence believes that the attack that did take place was the work of a group opposed to Vladimir Putin and his invasion of Ukraine. According to the newspaper: “Officials who saw the intelligence said they believed the saboteurs were most likely Ukrainian or Russian citizensor a combination of the two… U.S. officials said no American or British citizen was involved.”

European countries through which the pipeline passes, including Germany, are investigating the attack. US diplomacy is not involved in the investigation. Russia last month asked the United Nations Security Council, of which it is a member, to open an independent investigation.
