STEM degrees to respond to global market challenges | Branded content

In STEM majors, the professions of the future are being shaped today and the professionals companies need are being trained. Its acronym stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, i.e. science, technology, engineering and mathematics, qualifications with high employability and fields that CUNEF University promotes within its educational offer. Recognized as a private university in 2019, CUNEF’s academic activity dates back to 1973. Since then, more than ten thousand professionals have been trained in its classes, and the employment rate has reached 97%. At this time, it offers students a broader academic offering, since from the degrees that have defined their educational path, particularly business and management (ADE), finance and law, the institution integrates the knowledge that comes from STEM majors at the undergraduate level. and graduate degrees.

Next year, CUNEF will integrate new bachelor’s degrees in which technology is integrated and complemented by its areas of specialization: a bachelor’s degree in data science, a bachelor’s degree in artificial intelligence, and a bachelor’s degree in business and technology. These new degrees will be in addition to those already offered by the Higher Polytechnic, such as a Degree in Computer Engineering, a Degree in Mathematical Engineering, a Double Degree in ADE and Computer Engineering, and a Double Degree in Economics and Mathematical Engineering. In addition, CUNEF students can complete their training with some of the specializations stipulated in small Accompanying official degrees: data science, international finance and banking or digital law and artificial intelligence law. CUNEF’s postgraduate offer includes a Master’s degree in Data Science. In addition, I introduced the specialization of Data Science and Financial Digitization into my master’s degree in finance, which added to what was already there: corporate finance, banking, and investment management. Likewise, we must add a specialization program in Business Analytics, which is offered by CUNEF in collaboration with NTT Data, and another in Digital Law and Legal Technology.

Plan redesign

The curriculum for degrees such as business administration or economics at CUNEF has been reformulated, adding more weight to quantitative and technological training including programming fundamentals, as the basis for the 30 data science credits that can be found in both degrees. Students can gain knowledge related to information analysis and exploitation, machine learning, neural networks and deep learning, text mining and visualization techniques. Likewise, all degrees include other subjects related to professional skills, Soft skillsSuch as critical thinking, argumentation, communication techniques, leadership, conflict resolution, and others.

In the current situation of digitization, it is essential for professionals to carefully analyze data to support decision making. “This ability cannot be achieved without a strong knowledge of mathematics and statistics and without a toolbox. In it we find programming, algorithms, machine learning or machine learning and natural language processing,” says Laureano González Vega, Vice-Chancellor for Academic Organization and Quality at CUNEF University.

Analyzing data with standards means having strong mathematical and statistical knowledge and tools such as programming, algorithms or machine learning

The Vice-Chancellor confirms that all degrees at CUNEF include, based on technical knowledge, all types of skills that are currently classified as Soft skills (Abstraction, Communication, Critical Thinking, Teamwork, among others) which should allow students to work their future careers in environments called VUCA, characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity. Thus, for example, students of the degree in Business and Technology will have to prove, before completing their studies, that they are able to plan, conceive, deploy and direct projects, services and systems related to the digital transformation of the company, leading its implementation and its continuous improvement and evaluating its economic and social impact and sustainability. Similarly, students of the double degree in ADE and Data Science will have to demonstrate that they are able to analyze, interpret and communicate scientific and technological knowledge in an interdisciplinary context, evaluate its transfer to society and reflect on social and ethical responsibilities.

These two examples illustrate CUNEF’s desire to provide its students with training in both STEM and STEM majors Soft skills They are completely integrated and where the first cannot be understood without the second, ”summarizes Gonzalez Vega.

A new, sustainable and technological campus

Last March, CUNEF University began its teaching activity in its new campus, located in the heart of the University City of Madrid.
It is an area that will consist of 4 buildings and more than 18,000 square meters and has been designed to ensure academic and research excellence. Classrooms have the latest advances in digital and audio technology, which greatly improve teaching in face-to-face and hybrid format. This new university space guarantees maximum respect for the environment thanks to energy supplies from renewable energies, the use of photovoltaic panels in the facilities and a smart lighting and air conditioning system, among others.
