Spider-Man: No Way Home hits the top spot at the 2021 Box Office

The 2021 box office closed with excitement as Spider-Man: No Way Home grossed nearly $1.4 billion worldwide.

Hollywood closes 2021 with optimism and excitement. “Spider-Man: No Way Home” topped the box office for the third week in a row and is already on the list of highest-grossing films.

However, the film industry as it enters 2022 remains apprehensive considering that overall ticket revenue in 2021, although it has already doubled from 2020, is still far from being in the pre-pandemic period.

As of early 2021, most theaters are still closed. Over time, a large number of cinemas resumed operations and ended with big gains.

Sony Pictures’ Marvel sequel “Spider-Man: No Way Home” grossed nearly $53 million in the weekend closing 2021 and opening 2022, bringing its three-week total to nearly $610 million.

The acquisition puts the film at number 10 highest grossing in North America. Worldwide, the film grossed nearly $1.4 billion.

With that amount of revenue, “No Way Home” is ahead of “Black Panther” and makes it the 12th highest-grossing film globally.

“No Way Home,” the third film to feature actor Tom Holland as Spider-Man, provided a major boost to a box-office recovery that returned to revenue in the spring of 2021 when US theaters opened after a year-long shutdown due to COVID-19.

The film that took second place at the box office last weekend was Universal Picture’s animated sequel, “Sing 2.” Earning about $19.6 million in its second weekend, the film in two weeks grossed nearly $90 million in total.

Apart from “No Way Home” and “Sing 2”, few films are able to attract audiences to step into the cinema on the weekends off.

“The King’s Man,” the third publication in Matthew Vaughn’s “Kingsman” series, grossed $4.5 million in its second week after a sluggish debut.

However, that number is still good enough to put the film in third place. The film, released by Disney but produced by 20th Century Studios, has grossed $47.8 million globally.

After failing to debut last week, Warner Bros.’ The Matrix Resurrections. fell 64% in its second weekend to earn $3.8 million.

The film can be simultaneously streamed on HBO Max. Much of that effort was made in 2021 but the studio said it would end it in 2022.
