South American Integration, A New Attempt

Skepticism is the recommended attitude when accepting the declarations of unity of the countries of Latin America, even those which are part of an area somewhat smaller – and in principle more compact – than South America. The meeting with the rest of his colleagues organized by President Lula da Silva this Tuesday in Brasilia represents a new attempt to move towards greater regional integration. In his previous presidency, Lula promoted the creation of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur), but this also protected Chavismo’s excesses and disintegrated when that “Bolivarian cycle” ended.
