The President of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, has decided to postpone his planned trip to China to a date yet to be decided because he is suffering from mild pneumonia.

“Despite the improvement he has experienced, the medical service of the Presidency of the Republic recommends that the President postpone his trip to China until the viral cycle is over,” said the presidential statement compiled by O Globo on Saturday.

The trip was an important project on the Brazilian president’s agenda to sign no less than twenty agreements on the environment, trade, tourism promotion, science and technology.

Brazil is confident that China will help it re-industrialize some strategic sectors, as Lula promised in the election campaign.

In return, Lula and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to address the situation in Ukraine. The Brazilian president was one of the political leaders who advocated a third way to resolve the conflict.
