Jacob Ramsey signs new contract with Aston Villa until 2027

Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey has signed a new deal with the club that runs until 2027.

The 20-year-old has been with the Midlands club since he was six and made his first-team debut in a Championship game against West Bromwich Albion in February 2019.

The England Under-21 international has made 30 Premier League appearances for Villa this season, scoring six goals.

“It’s a proud moment for me, especially for my family,” said Ramsey.

“I’ve been here a long time now, come through the academy, and to sign for another five years at this club, I’m over the moon.”

Villa, managed by former England and Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard, are 15th in the Premier League.

“I think everyone knows that the owners, Christian [Purslow, chief executive] and the gaffer have got big ambitions,” added Ramsey.

“So I think the obvious one is to play European football.

“My plan for the next five years is to get this club playing European football again.”

Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey has signed a new contract until 2027.

The 20-year-old midfielder is a product of Villa’s academy and has become a first-team regular this season, after initially breaking through in 2020-21.

He is part of a talented crop of youngsters to emerge from the academy in recent years, along with Carney Chukwuemeka, Cameron Archer, and Jaden Philogene-Bidace.

Ramsey has scored six goals in 31 appearances across all competitions this season, having started Villa’s last 18 league matches.

He was also called up to the England U21 squad last month, scoring in a 4-1 win over Andorra U21.

Speaking after signing the new contract, Ramsey said: “It’s a proud moment for me, especially for my family.

“I’ve been here a long time now, come through the academy, and to sign for another five years at this club, I’m over the moon.

“There’s so many people who have helped me get to this point now, I can’t thank everyone enough from Under-9s, to being a scholar, to U23s and then stepping up to the first team.

“It’s been good; a lot of up and down moments but it’s all part of the journey and I feel like I’ve been playing well this season so it’s nice to be rewarded with a new contract.”

He also revealed his aspiration to play European football at Villa.

Ramsey has made 30 Premier League appearances this season after impressing first Dean Smith, then new boss Steven Gerrard who has tipped him as an England star in waiting.

The powerful midfielder, who has scored six times and provided one assist, added: “I feel like I’ve been playing well this season so it’s nice to be rewarded with a new contract.”

Ramsey is sure to be joined by some new faces next season.

Villa boss Gerrard was pictured in the stands at a Ligue 1 match after jetting off to the south of France on a scouting mission.

Gerrard took in the action between Marseille and Nantes last Wednesday.

But the purpose of his trip was for business rather than pleasure.

On the agenda was Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara, according to the Daily Express.

Aston Villa are eyeing Kamara as a potential summer signing, with Villa chiefs Christian Purslow and Johan Lange joining Gerrard to pass judgement on the 22-year-old midfielder.
