20th Century Studios and Locksmith Animation present “Ron’s Gone Wrong” which is about the unique and touching friendship between Barney, a junior high school student, and Ron, a digital device that can walk and talk. “Ron’s Gone Wrong” features the voices of Zach Galifianakis as Ron, Jack Dylan Grazer as Barney, and is directed by Jean-Philippe Vine, Sarah Smith, and Octavia Rodriguez.

Barney Pudowski is a fun but clumsy student and has a hard time making friends. Nor does he have one thing that guarantees popularity at his school: a digital walking, talking, and connected digital B*Bot device designed to be the perfect solution for navigating social challenges in school. B*Bot has the slogan Best Friend Out of The Box, where this device guarantees that the owner does not have to worry about finding friends anymore. Realizing that Barney’s only wish for his birthday is to have a B*Bot, Barney’s Dad surprises him with a B*Bot named Ron.

Barney’s fun story begins with a malfunction that occurs when he tries to activate Ron. A system crash occurred which made Ron not look as ‘sophisticated’ as other B*Bots. However, unlike other B*Bots, Ron is very loyal and always determined to support Barney in a unique way. The duo forge a real friendship that transcends the boundaries of the technological system that has been designed. This ‘different’ B*Bot phenomenon reaches the ears of Andrew Morris, COO of a B*Bot design technology company who wants to bring Ron back to his factory. With all his might, Barney is determined to look after Ron and wants to prove that sometimes something ‘wrong’ can be ‘right’.

“I want every film to be a message from me to my children. Part of Ron’s personality is inspired by the things I like to say to my daughter who sits in bed at night when she worries about having no friends. I’d like to say ‘it’s okay…just because you don’t have it now doesn’t mean that friend won’t come.’ This is the foundation of Ron’s personality: the things you want your child to understand so they don’t have to go through all the pain and suffering while they grow up,” explains director, writer, and executive producer Sarah Smith.
