In a statement on social networks, Guaidó announced his arrival in Colombia: “I have just arrived in Colombia, in the same way as millions of Venezuelans did before me, on foot,” making a special gesture to all the citizens who are forced to leave the South American country because of the crisis. humanity that will last more than a decade.

Threats against the opposition leader and former interim president have escalated in recent weeks, but according to his inner circle, “Guaidó assumed that his presence at the forum depended on him leaving Venezuela and that involved a risk.” He considers it necessary to “go out again to ask for the world’s support for the Venezuelans” for this year, as the opposition primaries are scheduled for October 22. Thus, he defended the electoral process organized by the opposition to elect a common candidate, stressing that “the fight for Venezuela’s freedom requires that we do it together.”

Opinion polls for the election do not place him among the main candidates. Featured on the list are María Corina Machado and former presidential candidate Henrique Capriles. Like Capriles, Guaido is not eligible for public office by the Venezuelan authorities.

In Colombia, Guaido will meet with international representatives with the aim of emanating from the summit the commitment of the Nicolas Maduro regime to resuming the dialogue process that began in November and a “credible” calendar for “free and fair” elections.
