Five apps to definitely leave your wallet behind | your technology | Country

Is it really necessary to carry a wallet? The recent pandemic has made it clear that cash can be substituted for payment cards in many cases. Little by little, credit cards have been flooded with mobile phones, a device that is already like a second skin, and it can still occupy a prominent position.

In this sense, the phone continues to be chosen as the preferred means of payment by more and more users. Thus, 37.5% usually choose this device when making payments, according to a study by VISA, positioning mobile as the third method of payment, behind cards and cash. Payment is perhaps the most obvious form of mobile phone use luggage alternative. But there are many other features that are gaining more and more ground.

Mobile phone, new credit card

Not so long ago, it was considered crazy to leave the house without a credit or debit card and exchange it for your mobile phone; However, payment by phone is gaining momentum. What are your strengths? The aforementioned study confirms that nearly half of those who pay over the phone do so because of the speed of the process, followed by the simplicity of payment, and finally because the device allows for better control over expenses.

Contrary to what might be assumed, paying with a mobile phone is much safer than using a physical card. “The payment industry is experiencing a unique moment of development, characterized by aspects that consumers and businesses demand such as speed, agility and, above all, security,” explains Eduardo Prieto, General Manager of Visa at EL PAíS Spain. “This is why mobile phones are gaining ground as a tool for making payments by leaps and bounds and I am convinced that this trend will continue to consolidate.”

My Citizen Folder: The “Swiss Army Knife” in your pocket

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation concluded an ambitious pilot test at the end of 2022: to bring a large part of procedures and certificates to mobile phones via an application, which until now has been scattered. The testing phase has ended and the My Citizen Folder application is now available, in which, among other certificates, the user will have in his pocket official certificates of:

  • census.
  • Studies and titles (university and non-university).
  • Certificate of Registration.
  • Working life and social benefits.
  • Great family address.
  • Points on the driver’s license and the following technical examination of the vehicle.
  • Identity renewal.

This application collects a large part of documents and certificates, and shows a QR which, once read, leads to an official document in the cloud that guarantees its validity. On the other hand, the development allows you to create an agenda with different dates or expiration dates and even request an appointment to renew your driver’s license or national identity document. Those with an iPhone will also be able to add certificates to Wallet, which is Apple’s official wallet.

Mobile driver’s license thanks to MiDGT

Not everyone knows this, but in Spain for a long time you could carry your driver’s license on your mobile phone and leave the actual one at home. The MiDGT app replaces, de facto, the physical document whenever it is traded in the national territory, and includes both a trading permit and compulsory vehicle insurance, as well as validity and expiration of the Vehicle Technical Inspection (ITV).

Using this application, the user will be notified of possible traffic penalties, which can be paid from the application, and will also be informed of the expiry dates of the driver’s license and the next technical inspection of the vehicles.

Loyalty cards: all in one “app”.

Stocard is one of the pioneering applications that has advocated that physical cards can be canceled and replaced with virtual ones, at least as far as loyalty cards are concerned. Almost any point card, as long as the merchant uses a barcode reader to add points, will work perfectly on a Stocard. The process of registering a new card is very simple, because this development has an extensive database of companies that have a loyalty card.

In addition, geolocation can be activated, so that the application will notify you of the proximity of any businesses that have a loyalty card, as well as offers and promotions, if notifications are activated. It is completely free for the user, as the company bills the companies that advertise through promotions.

Goodbye receipts forever

Purchase receipts have become a much-needed inconvenience without which a buyer would lack all kinds of rights when making a claim. Stacking them in the pants in the wallet could be a few days’ solution, but how do you locate a ticket to buy weeks ago in the face of a potential claim? A mobile phone is an ideal tool for this, as with the camera, the user can immortalize the receipt for later consultation.

There are many apps that can be useful for this purpose, and Evernote is one of the oldest and most popular on both mobile platforms. The idea is simple: scan the required purchase receipts, adding the corresponding annotation, always keeping in mind that this information should come in handy for locating them in the future.
