FIBA World Cup 2023 Qualification: Indonesian Basketball National Team Save Main Strength against Saudi Arabia and Jordan

JAKARTA – The Indonesian Basketball National Team (Timnas) will not lose full strength against Saudi Arabia and Jordan in the 2022 FIBA World Cup Qualifications. This was taken because PP Perbasi did not want the two countries to know the main strength of the Indonesian Basketball National Team, which of course could harm the squad. Red and White at the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup.

As is well known, Indonesia will compete in Window III of the 2023 FIBA World Cup qualification against Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Both matches will be held at Istora Senayan, on 1 and 4 July.

Interestingly, the Indonesian Basketball National Team is in Group A of the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup which is also together with Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Australia. Because currently the main focus is targeting the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup semifinals, PP Perbasi has released the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualification match.

This is because Indonesia is almost certain to not qualify for the 2023 FIBA World Cup through the qualifying round. So, Perbasi decided to play casually while appearing at the event. This step was also expressed by the Manager of the Indonesian Basketball National Team, Jeremy Immanuel Santoso.

“In this FIBA World Cup Qualification, we also don’t want to show 100 percent of our abilities,” said Jeremy to the media crew at PP Perbasi, Thursday (30/6/2022).

“Because we don’t want to be judged easily first from the two countries,” he added.

In addition, Jeremy also asked for full support from the supporters for the success of the Indonesian Basketball National Team. He also hopes that the Indonesian Basketball National Team can again make history by getting into the top eight to ensure that they qualify for the 2022 FIBA World Cup.

“Although we have more advantages as hosts, I ask for your support for the national team so that we can make history again at FIBA Asia and qualify for the FIBA World Cup after we won at the SEA Games,” he added.

So, the Indonesian Basketball National Team saved energy against Saudi Arabia and Jordan in the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers because from that route, there was almost no chance to qualify for the finals.

Later in the FIBA Asia Cup 2022, the Indonesian Basketball National Team will play in total and aim for the quarter-finals in order to win tickets to the FIBA World Cup 2023.
