FIBA Asia Cup 2022: Indonesian Basketball National Team Resolve to Revenge on Saudi Arabia

The manager of the Indonesian Basketball National Team (Timnas), Jeremy Imanuel Santoso, revealed the readiness of the Indonesian Patriots – the nickname of the Indonesian Basketball Team – to perform at the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup. He said the Indonesian Basketball National Team would deploy their full strength to defeat Saudi Arabia.

The Indonesian Basketball National Team will face Saudi Arabia in the opening match of Group A at Istora Senayan, Central Jakarta, Tuesday 12 July 2022, at 17.30 WIB. Derrick Michael Xzavierro and his friends are certainly aiming for positive results in this first match.

Previously, the Indonesian Basketball National Team lost 67-69 to Saudi Arabia in the fifth match of Group C FIBA World Cup 2023 Asia Zone qualification at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, Friday July 1 2022. The Indonesian Basketball National Team is expected to avenge the defeat.

Jeremy explained that the Indonesian Basketball National Team lost to Saudi Arabia because they did not appear in full strength. However, in tomorrow’s match, the Indonesian Basketball National Team will field their best strength.

“I think yesterday the Saudi opponent was not 100 percent of our roster. This time, we will be 100 percent and I hope the result will lead to a victory for the team,” Jeremy told the media crew, Monday (11/7/2022).

In addition, Jeremy explained, the Indonesian Basketball National Team would again be strengthened by Marques Bolden. He also hopes that the Indonesian Basketball National Team can perform even better in the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup.

“There are several important points, one of which is the inside presence where there will be Marques Bolden playing there. I think the children on defense and offense will be more confident because of Bolden’s inside presence,” he said.

“The second is turnover, we sometimes still like to make turnovers when pressed by opponents whose size is much bigger. Third, what we will fight, it’s in rebounds where we have to win there, to fight teams that the overall size is bigger. So, I think the children will have a very different fighting spirit tomorrow,” he added.

Furthermore, Jeremy said, the players must have the determination to win, let alone perform in front of their own fans. He believes the Indonesian Basketball National Team can win in the match later.

“We just give the mindset to the children not to want to lose twice at home, so tomorrow we have to respond and I think the children will give victory to Indonesia tomorrow,” he concluded.
