Erik ten Hag has a special plan for Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United (MU) new permanent manager Erik ten Hag has revealed his plans for Cristiano Ronaldo. This is the first time the coach has spoken about the future of the Portuguese superstar at Old Trafford.

As is well known, Erik ten Hag was officially appointed as the new Red Devils tactician last April. He has agreed to sign a three-year contract with the club, which will keep him in charge of United until 2025.

Ahead of his arrival to Old Trafford, Ten Hag is widely rumored to be making major changes to the Red Devils squad.

A number of players are also reported to be ready to leave Manchester United because their contracts are about to expire. According to the Mirror, Cristiano Ronaldo was the only striker left when Ten Hag set foot in the Premier League giants.

The 52-year-old manager is already planning to increase the strength of the squad by recruiting new reinforcements. However, Ten Hag seems to have special plans for CR7. This was conveyed after playing the last match with Ajax this season.

“From tomorrow, my focus will be on (Manchester) United, and of course I’ll be looking into things there,” Ten Hag said as quoted by the Mirror.

“All I have to say about it is: a detailed analysis has to start. I still have to work with the team, but let me explain that at United there are a lot of good players. We have to make them work as a team, but for sure, Ronaldo is a big person,” continued the Dutch coach.

Cristiano Ronaldo was actually the subject of speculation after the appointment of Ten Hag. The Portugal international is feared to leave Manchester United next season because his playing style doesn’t match the way Ten Hag expects to play.

Even so, there is still a chance for CR7 to survive in the Red Devils. Metro reports claim Ten Hag has contacted Ronaldo and assured the player that he will be an important part of his plans for next season.

This was met with support from Cristiano Ronaldo. The former Real Madrid player is optimistic that his club will be able to compete for the title under the Dutch coach. He also hopes that the Red Devils can give Ten Hag time to restore MU’s glory.

“I know that he (Ten Hag) has done a great job at Ajax, he is an experienced coach, but we have to give him time,” Ronaldo told United’s official website, as reported by Metro.

“Things have to change according to his will. If he can do (his job) well, Manchester United will be successful. We are all happy and excited (welcome the arrival of Ten Hag), not only the players but also the fans. We have to believe that next year we can win the title,” concluded CR7.

Ten Hag’s expertise on the gridiron is unquestionable. The 54-year-old coach has just led Ajax to lock the Eredivisie title this season. Not wanting to waste time, Ten Hag immediately stepped on the gas to prepare his move to MU.

Metro reports say Ten Hag wants to meet with the Red Devils officials to discuss player transfer issues. The bald-headed man also needs certainty and support before signing or ejecting a number of players from MU next season.

Six players are predicted to leave Old Trafford when their contracts expire. They are Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic and Lee Grant. There are also other names that have been released to make more room for the purchase of new players.

Ten Hag will then bring in players who match his game plan. Some of the posts that will be patched in the MU squad include, main striker, anchor midfielder, and central defender. In addition, Ten Hag is also interested in signing two full-backs on the left and right.

For information, MU is currently locked in sixth place in the Premier League standings with 58 points from a total of 37 matches. In the last match scheduled to take place on Sunday (22/5/2022), the Red Devils will face Crystal Palace.

Cristiano Ronaldo and his friends had no choice but to win the match. If not, there is an opportunity for MU to be thrown into a deeper position in the Premier League final standings this season.
