dustin poirier Intentions To Retire After Competing With Charles Oliveira
Former UFC fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov has asked Dustin Poirier to reconsider his decision to retire as a mixed martial arts (MMA) athlete.
Because Khabib considered Poirier’s decision too hasty because he decided to retire after being defeated by Charles Oliveira at UFC 269. Dustin was defeated by Oliveira at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, on December 12, 2021 ago.
In the lightweight fight, Dustin had to acknowledge Oliveira’s prowess after being defeated by submission in the third round via rear naked choke.
Dustin has also lost twice in the battle for the UFC title belt. Previously, the wrestler from the United States was defeated by Khabib in 2019.
As for her opponent, Oliveira managed to defend the UFC title belt. Previously on May 15, 2021 ago, Oliveira won the vacant championship belt after defeating Michael Chandler. After the match, Dustin, who looked desperate, gave a hard code to retire.
He also said that he would think about his future as a lightweight wrestler while resting. However, Dustin was advised by Nurmagomedov to reconsider his decision to retire.
According to him, the defeat of Oliveira is not the end of everything. “After the fight he (Dustin) said he needed to think (about his future), is that kind of thinking (retirement) really needed?” Khabib said as reported by MMA Mania
Furthermore, Khabib said that the thought of retiring like that was normal for athletes. However, once the athlete decides to retire, his career will be finished and will not be able to return to the way it was before if he cancels his retirement and returns to the pentagon.
You look at athletes and see how quickly they change. I’ve already told my close friends,” he continued.
“There comes a time when you have to stay active and fight. If this button (retirement) is clicked once, he will never come back.” Khabib himself decided to retire last year after defeating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254.
The Russian man stopped stepping on the pentagon because of his mother’s suggestion that he not fight after his father’s death. Khabib also retired unbeaten once and holds the UFC lightweight championship belt with a perfect record.
