As the great Hilary Duff once said Let the rain fall down And wake my dreams. These wise words from a 2003 pop hit Come Clean now live

As the great Hilary Duff once said, “Let the rain fall down / And wake my dreams.” These wise words from a 2003 pop hit, “Come Clean,” now live on in Drew Barrymore, who, apparently, loves getting caught in the rain more than I have ever loved anything in my life.

Over the weekend, she shared a video of herself getting caught in the rain, smiling happily as it covers her glasses in smudges that will definitely be a pain to clean later. “Whenever you can, go out into the rain,” she said in the video, shaking out her hair and laughing. “Do not miss the opportunity!” This is actually the second time Barrymore has gone viral for her love of precipitation. In May, she started a trend when she encouraged followers to “run out in the rain, don’t miss the opportunity.” Her uncontained delight at something so mundane might seem over the top to some, but to those people, I say, Why do you hate joy?

Barrymore has never been shy about sharing her emotions. Barely a month ago, she was crying on Instagram because she discovered a window during her remodel. “I knew there was a window here, I knew it,” she said in the video, crying as she pried drywall from the old window. “It’s so hopeful. It’s like, when things can be covered up and dark, you can pry it open and create light,” she added.

If there’s one thing Drew Barrymore is going to do, it’s share her emotions. Just look at pretty much any episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. There was the time she cried meeting Ryan Kiera Armstrong, the actress who took on her Firestarter role in the Peacock remake, or when she teared up talking to Kristin Davis about Sex and the City, or when she burst into tears upon being surprised by David Letterman on her talk show. She just FEELS. SO. MUCH. And why wouldn’t she? She’s a Hollywood legend. If she wants to cry at a window, let her cry!

Drew Barrymore embraces the rain with childlike joy and fans can’t get enough

Drew Barrymore is reminding fans that rain is beautiful.

In a video posted Sunday, The Drew Barrymore Show” host shared a clip of herself outside smiling and enjoying the rain.

“Whenever you can go out into the rain … do not miss the opportunity!” the 47-year-old actress shouted with glee.

And the internet can’t seem to get enough. Her post has received nearly 500,000 likes on Instagram and over 2 million on TikTok.

“I want to love anything as much as Drew Barrymore loves everything. Perfection,” wrote content creator Michael Brown in a tweet sharing the clip.

“She’s the most full of joy, funny, darling person ever. As you can tell. This is really her,” wrote actress Kristen Johnston.

“You’re amazing,” commented editor Michelle Lee on the Instagram post.

But others defended Barrymore by reminding fans that Barrymore endured hardships as a young actress.

“People being rude about this clearly forget how much Drew Barrymore went through as a child star,” Nọ́lá Ọjọ́mú tweeted. “The fact she lives a life filled with soooo much joy makes me smile every time.”

Another fan was reminded of playing in the rain as a kid. “When I saw this earlier today, I felt like I was looking at the little Drew, who didn’t have a chance at a normal childhood, playing in the rain in her adult body. I’m so happy for her.”

Barrymore rose to fame for her role in “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” when she was 7 years old. She later grappled with alcohol and drug addiction, going to rehab at the age of 12 and relapsing at 13 years old.

Barrymore has opened up about her father, actor John Drew Barrymore, being a violent alcoholic, and her mother who struggled with parental responsibility. Her parents divorced when she was 9.

In an 2015 interview, Barrymore told the Guardian that her 14-year-old self imagined having a happy life at the age of 40 despite being consumed by so much negativity.

“I was so scared of not knowing where I was going. I really had a fear that I was going to die at 25,” Barrymore said, adding that even when things got dark, she always had a sense there should be goodness. “I never went all the way into darkness. There were so many things I could have done that would have pushed me over the edge and I just knew not to go there.”

Barrymore went on to have a successful film career, starring in “Charlie’s Angels,” “50 First Dates” and “Scream,” to name a few. Her talk show premiered in 2020. She shares two daughters, Olive, 9, and Frankie, 8, with ex-husband Will Kopelman.

“I try to make my life a playground for them,” Barrymore told USA TODAY in 2020. “They know I’m passionate about work, and work is a wonderful and necessary thing.”

“Sending the drew barrymore in the rain video to my therapist and saying ‘this is what I want,'” comedian Blaire Erskine said.

This video wasn’t the first time Barrymore has urged people to enjoy the rain. In May, Barrymore posted a similar video with damp hair while it rained behind her.

“If it’s raining anywhere you are, just run out in the rain. Don’t miss the opportunity,” she said in the May video.
