A welcome (and necessary) boost so that neither SMEs nor the self-employed are left behind | digitization | technology

The weight of small and medium-sized businesses in the Spanish economy is unquestionable. The numbers are compelling. Small and medium enterprises make up 99.9% of the national business fabric, account for 65% of GDP and create three out of four jobs. Moreover, many of them are small enterprises with fewer than ten workers and turnover of less than two million euros. In just a few short years, digital transformation has had a full impact on their business models.

New technologies are critical tools that help increase your productivity, explore other avenues of income, reduce inequality, and create new ways to connect with customers and employees. In record time, many of these small and medium-sized companies have integrated big data, automation processes, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things into their daily lives… But getting all these mechanisms to work is not always easy.

The difficulties are greater in small firms. Reaching the goal requires, on the one hand, a change in mentality and work culture, and on the other hand, obtaining adequate financing. To specifically help SMEs on their path to digitalization, the Plan for Recovery, Transformation and Resilience (PRTR), which articulates the financing of the European NextGeneration EU programme, has launched several measures for SMEs to improve their digital skills and quickly integrate new technologies into their various activities.

One of them is the program digital kit. Its budget amounts to €3,067 million in non-refundable grants and targets one million small and medium enterprises with up to 50 employees and self-employed workers. Digitalization agents are responsible for providing companies that request the different solutions available on the market, related to aspects such as e-commerce, marketing, customer and supplier management, process automation or cybersecurity, among others. Tools that help companies be more competitive and modern so they don’t get left behind.

help digital kit, valid through December 2024, in order until funds run out. but there is a problem. It takes longer than expected for this money to arrive, due to slow and expensive administrative procedures. Moreover, these solutions do not provide SMEs with a universal remedy for their digital transformation needs. For this reason, Sage, a leader in cloud accounting and business management solutions, has decided to launch its own solutions assistance plan for Small and medium-sized companieswhich complement grants companies can already receive through digital kit.

The Sage program includes a financial contribution, access to a training platform, and customized advice for companies that request it.

The three themes of the programme

With a contribution of seven million euros, this initiative will be available until the end of the year or until the fund runs out. To date, the company has already received more than 500 orders. The plan is divided into three axes, as explained by its Director General for Spain and Portugal, José Luis Martín Zabala. On the other hand, it has an economic reward that Sage gives almost instantly – in just 48 business hours – without administrative hurdles or delays, allowing small and medium businesses that request it to scale their digital transformation process. It also includes a training plan: an exclusive platform developed by Sage to empower companies on their path towards digital transformation, with a focus on business efficiency and the development of new business models, and includes access to Webinars and content to make the most of all its potential. All this allows small and medium enterprises to improve their management and develop their business.
